Whether you like it or not, many runways this Spring featured dresses that were layered over trousers. This trend is also increasing on the red carpets.

Nine Winter Must-Haves
All of these pieces of clothing are important and can be used in multiple different outfits.
Number One. The skinny jeans. Pick a pair of skinny jeans that can be used with almost anything, like a black or dark blue jean. If your feet are cold tuck them into a pair of knee-high boots. If you are wanting to look a little trendy pair them with ballet flats and a leather jacket.
Number Two. The cashmere sweater. A cashmere sweater goes with everything. If you pin it with jeans, skirts, printed trousers, leather pants, or shorts, you just can't go wrong.
Number Three. A long sleeve t-shirt. Not only is a long sleeve t-shirt an ideal layering piece but it works during any time of the year.
Number Four. A chambray button-down. Are you tired of just a plain white button-down? Exchange it for a chambray button-down and spice things up.
Number Five. A bright-color coat. Living in Provo we are pretty much wearing coats from October to March and your outerwear is what everyone sees. To dress it up you can pair it with a fashionable scarf.
Number Six. Knee-High Boots. Especially with all of the snow, it is essential for every girl to own a pair of knee-high bots. Make sure they are brown, they will go with more things if you do. Not only will you be warm, but you will look very stylish.
Number Seven. Knit Sweater-dress. During the winter and fall we sometimes are sick of wearing jeans and would like to wear something a little more feminine. Get a nice pair of leggings (to still keep your legs warm), pull over a sweater-dress and pair with a nice pair of boots.
Number Eight. A printed scarf. Whether you choose a zigzag pattern, classic leopard print, other animal print, or polka dot print, a printed scarf is sure to function as a great accessory and great way to keep warm.
Number Nine. Flannel Shirts. Flannel shirts are in style this season and can be paired with almost anything. You can get them in numerous colors, accessorize with scarfs, boots and necklaces.

Don't Under-estimate

Provo is soon going to be a very cold place to live. It is easy for us to dress as warmly as we possibly can so we don't freeze to death. However, this presents another problem because, when dressing warm, we sometimes forget to care about what our warm clothes look like.
Who knows when you are going to meet mister right or when you are going to run into a new career opportunity? You need to be prepared for everything.
Never underestimate the power of a well-fitting, stylish winter coat. You can be wearing pajamas underneath and you'll still look perfectly put together. Never underestimate the accessories you can pair with your winter coat. A nice scarf can turn your coat from just a coat, to a trendy outfit.

Scarves

Fall is here, and that means it is time for scarves! Living on a college budget is difficult, no one will deny that. What is even more difficult is staying up with the fashion trends and styles while not going into debt. The power of a versatile wardrobe is in your accessories. As long as you have a good pair of jeans, sandals, boots and some basic t-shirts/sweaters, you can dress up any outfit from a relaxed day to a night on the town.
The ultimate accessory for any girl is a scarf. I have about twenty different scarves (many of which were free) ranging in price from $2 to $10. The trick to a good scarf is finding patterned scarves that are deep/rich colors. If there are multiple colors in your scarf the better, it is easier to wear it with everything and it definitely adds confidence to any outfit. To spice it up even more, but in a nice pair of dangly earrings, and add a watch.

Halloween Window Displays
By: Amberly Asay
Halloween is upon us, and Studio 1030 has turned it's windows into a Halloween visual spectacular. The windows were definitely a challenge and fun for us to do.
The front window display was really fun. We took more of a witch/apothecary/wizard of Oz/Emerald City type of look. We had a lot of fun spray painting goblets and bugs with gold and this mystical blue color. We had a lot of fun deciding what would be in a witch's liar, specifically a beautiful witch. We have learned those do exist. You can see makeup brushes accompanying her magic potions and surrounded by her crows.
The side window was also a really fun window. We made curtains out of black lace and filled the window with some flowers. The most fun and difficult part of the window was finding a chandelier. Those are hard to find, especially ones that you can break. We did find one, which we lightly covered in black spray paint and broke and put inside our window. There are also several broken mirrors floating around.
Let us know what you think and if you have any ideas for windows, tell us by commenting below!

Jacket

"Please describe your idea of a perfect date."
"That's a tough one. I'd have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket."
Whether or not this April 25th is going to require a jacket is debatable. However a jacket can make or break an outfit. There are three jackets I consider a necessity: jean jacket, leather jacket and army jacket. These jackets can help take any jean and t-shirt outfit to a completely new look.
I have three different leather jackets (all hand me downs) in black, caramel and dark brown. When wearing a white t-shirt and jeans I can instantly go from lounging around the house to going on a hot date. I like to pair a scarf with my jackets and a nice pair of sandals.
Jean jackets are another great staple (again another hand me down). I love wearing mine with summer dresses and with colored t-shirts underneath. It makes a more comfortable outfit, but please don't wear a jean jacket with similar colored jeans. This isn't the 90s.
Army jackets, this doesn't mean camouflage. Instead think of the feminine twist you can have on the army styles. Women who served in World War II wore fitted jackets that nipped in at the waist, and below-the-knee skirts that skimmed their lower bodies. This jacket will give you more of a "metro" look and not only look fabulous but keep you warm too.

14 Fashion Trends this Fall
To look at some great examples please visit: http://pinterest.com/studio1030/2013-fall-fashion/
1. Leopard
This majestic animal is not only ruling the jungle but it is taking over the runway. Outfits were decked out in head-to-toe leopard. It was used on dresses, skirts, pants, shirts, shoes, bags, everywhere! Even in colored prints. So don't go and buy tiger this season, leopard is the one you want.

2. Fur
Fur was everywhere on the runways and was being shown in so many different forms--as collars on dresses, fur coats, fur skirts and especially in bold colors!
3. Knee-high Boots
The past several years the more modern-feeling booties have been in style, but that is going to change this fall. The chunky heel knee-high boots are being paired with skirts, dresses and oversized tops. Plan on having warm legs this fall and winter.
4. Layering
Layering has been a trend for the last little while, but get ready for more colorful layers this season. You will be seeing purple with orange and pink all together in one outfit. Apparently it can be done.
5. Black & White Separates
This was a popular trend in the spring wear, and it has followed into the Fall. It was a major theme running through every designer at fashion week. It was most often shown using contrasting separates in interesting shapes, accompanied with monochromatic accessories.
6. Same-Print Mixing
Last season we saw a lot of super-opposing print separates together, for example chevron and florals. It would seem that print-mixing is taking a different tactic for fall. Several designers showcased pieces with similar prints in different sizes and colors.
7. PINK, PINK, PINK
Pink was the most popular color this time around. Dresses, outerwear, suits and sportswear were all pink. Many of the designers counter-weighted the sweetness of the color with modern silhouettes.
8. Over-sized Coats
There was nothing subtle about coats this fall. The coats are dramatically over-sized, with drop shoulders, extra-long cuffs and large lapels.
9. Chic Sweatshirts
Not so form fitting, but sweatshirts are making their way back into style. But not just any sweatshirt, luxe sweatshirts. Painted designs and other designs are on the front of these stylish sweatshirts. The shirts were often paired with swingy skirts or skinny trousers.
10. The Under-Arm Bag Tuck
The cool way to carry your purse is under your arm, clutch style. But these bags are not clutches they are satchels and totes complete with handles. I mean why be practical when it comes to fashion?
11. Winter Whites
This was a major theme on the runways with designers showcasing head-to-toe looks with modern separates, but the separates come in varying shades of stark, ivory and cream. Don't be worrying about the "no white after labor day" rule, we expect to see white coats, jeans and boxy sweaters this season.
12. Bokeh Prints
Bokeh is a photography term for what looks like blurred lights! This design was showcased as print on the runways mostly on evening-ready dresses. Shoppers probably won't seek out bokeh prints for the print itself, but if you find a dress with this feature on it, we are pretty sure you'll try it on.
13. Army Trousers
Unlike the skinny cargo jeans of the past couple of years, these military trousers are a bit lose around the thighs. The trick is to wear them with high heels to keep the look from getting too costumey.
14. Leather Sweatpant
The leather sweat pant is a looser cut and has an elastic waist. These pants are not only really comfortable but they are also really stylish. Be sure to wear them with a heeled shoe though.

Layering Necklaces
By: Amberly Asay
Layering necklaces seems to be the latest trend in fashion right now. What used to be a boho hippie look is now becoming more modern. There are a few steps you must follow though, because if it isn't done right it just looks clunky and bulky.
The first step is to make sure your necklaces are of varying length. I like using an 18 inch chain with a pendant as my first necklace. You want your layering to look delicate, effortless and pretty. Matching the tones in your jewelry to your own skin, hair or eye color is another way to get it right. And I feel like this is obvious but make sure your jewelry is matching your clothing. Color Trend - Black & White
By: Amberly Asay
The biggest color trend of the summer will be black and white. Yes you read that correctly. The clothing racks will be full of classic, well tailored fashions that are black and white. Not only are these pieces classic, but you can use them again and again over the years.
Two staple items this season: a white jacket and a black dress. A stark white blazer is in this season and can be worn with almost anything. Pair it with a cute jean, shirt and necklace for a relaxed feeling but professional look.
Every woman needs a black dress and if you don't have one, this season is a great time to get one. Pair it with some great heels and accessories to complete your look.

STRIPES
Stripes are in this season as well as all things nautical. The best way to jump into the nautical trend is to start with a striped shirt. No matter what color or cut you want, it will always be in fashion. Don't be afraid to go bold when pairing things with your striped outfit. Bright colors are a great contrast and add some more summer flair.
You can ease into the nautical look by mixing the shirt with seaworthy accessories. Stripes are great with dresses especially. Not only are dresses cooler to wear during the summer but they are also very fashionable.

Lace
The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, was a pioneer of the new lace style. She loved lace overlays, lace pants, and her wedding dress was crafted of a beautiful lace. This simple yet elegant trend has spread from royalty to the everyday person. It has traveled from the land of the British and landed on American soil.
Fashion Week in New York this Spring featured lace as a significant element of this year's trending designs. Every designer had at least one lace piece, and many had all-lace lines. Lace adds a feminine and delicate look to any wardrobe, and it is super light and comfortable to wear.
The runways saw an unprecedented number of unique uses of lace in modern style. Light flowy shirts, vests and skirts are being made out of lace. It is also covering shoes and handbags! You name it, it is probably there. It is also coming in various colors. Of course you get your classic whites and off-whites, but emerald green and coral laces are huge this spring season.

Hottest Spring Color-Emerald Green

Emerald Green is this Spring's latest color trend. This rich green color has been a favorite gemstone for centuries, but it is now making it's splash in everything this season. Emerald was named the Pantone Color of the Year. Emerald is seen in shoe laces, purses, jewelry, scarves,
shirts, dresses, pants and of course shoes. It is a refreshing color and will help put anyone into a summery mood.

Kitten Heel
By: Amberly Asay
Well the 60s are coming back this spring, and most importantly so is the
kitten heel. It comes in many different styles and is feminine and
classic. It is also comfortable and an absolute wardrobe staple this
spring.
The kitten heel is a short slender heel that is 1-3 inches in height. The kitten heel was first introduced in the 1950s as a trainer heel for teenagers. By the 1960s almost all women were wearing this comfortable heel, which was popularized by the Hollywood star Audrey Hepburn.

Nude Pumps
By: Amberly Asay
I was in London for the Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton to Prince William. The talk was of course Kate's wardrobe and her infamous nude pumps. I will be the first to say I was very unsure about the nude pump. I didn't think I was ever going to buy a pair and that it was silly, but I did find myself buying a pair a couple of months ago and now I don't know how I lived without them.
Nude pumps are great for making one symmetrical line and making your legs look longer, which makes you look slimmer. Make sure your nude shoe matches your skin tone though, otherwise you cut off that line.
Nude pumps are great for a pastel or bright colored dress. Black heels are too harsh and could kill the look of your fabulous dress. Pumps also go well with white khakis, and if you can pull of the skinny jeans, that look is extremely fabulous right now.

Spend Money on Accessories
By: Amberly Asay
The power of accessories is one that can't be ignored. I can wear a white t-shirt and jeans, but if I pair it with a scarf, fancy earrings and a cute watch, I get compliments like crazy about how cute my outfit is.
Nothing updates a wardrobe or changes the look of an outfit more than accessories can. Instead of spending a lot of money every year updating your wardrobe, buy some classic, versatile pieces, and update on accessories.
Style is more about the eye and not about the price. A piece of jewelry can look like a designer brand but could be 1/10 of the cost. Accessories that are necessary: good pair of heels, nice watch, dangly earrings, scarves, belts and hand bags.

Matte Nail Polish

The latest and most exciting trend in the nail polish fashion world is the new matte nail polish. Unlike your typical manicure finish, the matte finish means a polish that is completely devoid of shine.
You can buy color mattes, but I think the more cost-friendly option is to buy a matte top coat. It makes more sense to buy one bottle of top coat to use with every shade of nail polish, then to buy multiple colors.
Applying a Matte Top Coat:
The application of a matte top coat is a little different than a normal top coat. While a shiny top coat can camouflage most application mistakes, a matte top coat does the opposite, it will magnify mistakes. Put it on and then let it dry.
One of my favorite things to do, is to do a glitter polish and with a matte coat over it. This is an especially good look during the holidays.

Intensify your eyes
Logan, a master esthetician at Studio 1030, says when applying makeup to use a glō minerals lip primer. Not only does it hold your eye makeup in place for up to 12 hours, it intensifies your shadow colors. Line the inner part of your lower eyelids with a peach or pink toned eyeliner. It will make your eyes look bigger and brighter (great after an all-night study session).

Number One Rule in Makeup

A red lip is everyone's holiday favorite, however you must never play up both the mouth and the eyes. If you do a red lip use a very neutral and soft eye. When you use a smokey eye, always use a nude lip.
Tips for a red lip:
Pick the right shade for your skintone.
If you use a lip liner, use one that is close to your natural lip color, chances are you will not find a red lip liner that will match the shade of red in your lipstick.
Again only use light eye makeup with your red lipstick.
Here are some tips on your smokey eye:
The number one rule is blending! You need to pair light base colors with rich dark colors. Nice mixes include: Soft gold base with deep purple on top, champagne base with bright blue and peach base with green hue. Use an eye liner pencil, because the pencil is the easiest to blend. Use a cream as your main shade on your eye lid and then use a dark eyeshadow color. Use an eye shadow brush to blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears.
